Swiss National Day 2019

Here’s all you need to know about the upcoming Swiss National day celebrations which are taking place in Adelaide.

Swiss National Day Celebration

An unforgettable night, our most popular event in 2018, full of gooey cheese, hot potatoes, gluhwein, a traditional lantern parade and bonfire.

For young, old and everyone in between. This event is child friendly but last year the 20 year olds were laughing alongside 90 year olds and the 30 year olds eating sausages with 60 year olds so don’t be shy, come and see what all the fuss is about.

When: Saturday 3 August 2019

Time: 4pm arrival, food served from 5pm, lantern parade will start once it gets dark.

Where: Aldgate Oval Hall, 18 Churinga Rd, Aldgate (keep an eye out for the Swiss flags)

What: bring your own drinks and a Swiss salad or dessert to share. Please bring your own cutlery, glassware and crockery. Special enamel mugs will be available for purchase.

Pricing: To make for a smooth evening with minimal line-ups tickets need to be pre-purchase by 17 July.

  • $16* members (adults)

  • $11* children (all children)

  • $26* non-members

    * Inclusive of $1 online booking fee

What’s included: Fantastic value, the ticket price gets you raclette (melted cheese on potatoes with condiments) and traditional sausages. Plus salads, desserts, water, tea and coffee.

What else should you know?

  • A special address by our Consulate of Switzerland in Adelaide, Patrick Wille

  • National anthem moment (read about the history of the anthem here)

  • A game or two with prizes

  • Lantern parade around the oval (we have some spare lampions but bring your own if you have a favourite)

  • A bonfire to keep you toasty (bring your own marshmallows and roasting sticks)

  • There is parking on site (limited) but more parking on Churinga Road. If you need a lift get in touch so we can connect you with another member.

  • We’re striving for a waste free event so please bring your own plates and cutlery to avoid single use rubbish at the end of the night.
